People feel that using surveillance cameras in public places, such as parking lots, is a good idea that can help ensure our safety

Do you think security cameras are the best way to keep people safe in cities? Well, many people indeed feel that using surveillance cameras in public places, such as parking lots, is a good idea that can help ensure our safety. Others worry that too many cameras violate our privacy rights and give law enforcement officials too much power. In your opinion, should we install more surveillance cameras in public places?

I think surveillance cameras have too many disadvantages and flaws to be actually used in a city. Even if a city buys a few thousand surveillance cameras to cover everywhere. There are always going to be some blind spots that criminals will misuse. This could cause problems like people scrambling to where surveillance cameras are. These surveillance cameras can be also hacked. This will exploit millions of people's faces and identities, this could be used to make things like the fake id and other criminal activities. Even though surveillance cameras can prove crimes by providing evidence, they can't do anything. It's like just watching a guy rob a bank and can't do anything but you took pictures with your camera. This is useless if he runs away and the police can't find him or her. Surveillance cameras are also very costly. If these surveillance cameras don't work, it's going to be the taxpayer's money that's going to be wasted. Surveillance cameras are also electronic, which means that these are going to break down someday and will need to be replaced. This just means the city will need to take more tax, and although it does make the city safer, it can put a lot of people in poverty. This would also increase the crime rate because people can't get enough money, to hold their families, and they would be forced to turn to crime for their income. Surveillance cameras can also cause people to tense up and feel uncomfortable in public spaces because they think they are being watched even though they are not committing any crimes. Although surveillance cameras can decrease crime rate for a while, it won't change a lot.
