Do you think cars are a big problem nowadays? Well, many cities suffer from serious air and noise pollution—as well as
endless traffic jams—because of too many cars." Some people feel that cities with extensive public transportation systems should ban passenger cars and force people to walk, bike, or use public transportation. Do you think this is a good idea?"
Well, I think it is not a good idea to ban cars even if public transportation is really well developed. If public transportation is really well-developed, it means that there are a lot of people living in the city. That means they will all have different needs to do something with a car. What if they need to see their grandparents who are sick, but all the plane seats are sold out? I don't think buses will carry them outside the city. So they would need to take a car. Also, there are just 93,343 people only working in manufacturing the cars. There will be way more people selling cars, fixing them, gas stations, and other people employed in the car industry. By banning cars, all of these people will lose their job, which could make unemployment go up a lot. Also, companies related to cars would bankrupt, and millions more will lose their job. This would overall be bad for stocks. There will also be fewer tourists coming to the city. About 35% of Americans take a road trip in their life, but if they ban cars in certain cities, there will be fewer Americans taking the road trip. And lesser people go to the city which banned cars. America would also be out of the car industry. They would completely lose their competition in the global car industry. More and more companies will stop investing in car companies. This could overall cause a second Great Depression which even lasted 10 years. And it will be impossible to turn back after the unemployment rate plumped and Great Depression began. Of course, people will need to solve global warning, but banning cars is not the answer. It is too extreme and can cause problems. Like are police cars, and ambulances allowed?
