Hi! Do you know anything at all about the war on drugs? Well, today's very interesting essay topic is "The negative effects of Ronald Reagan’s “War on Drugs.”".
Well, one of the negative effects of Ronald Reagan’s “War on Drugs.” would be that although this program caught some real drug dealers, some innocent people who hadn't done any violence but they carried something like a gun and were convicted of drug dealers. Some people claimed that the war on drugs was racist, I don't disagree with them since people that police searched were usually hippies and African Americans. Although I don't know a lot about Ronald Reagan's war on drugs, I think there would have been some stereotypes applied when police tried to capture people with drugs or drug dealers.
But capturing and fighting drug dealers wasn't everything in the war on drugs, there were lots of campaigns to prevent teenagers and children to use drugs. They were pretty good but it may have been too much for young kids like first grade. They are just kids, although it would be good to notice them early, I think it would be better if they start teaching these things and teaching them drugs are bad when they are in third grade. Not too early, and not too late in my opinion.
Also, another negative effect is that some people were sent to prison even if they didn't commit any violence. And few people were captured because they thought they would have a connection with terrorists and they were funding terrorists with drugs but there wasn't any real evidence, but some were still proven guilty because they were drug smugglers.
To sum up all the pieces of information from this selection, the war on drugs was pretty good except for some major issues like racism, some programs were too old for some children, and some people were believed to be guilty even when there wasn't any real evidence. And some criminals got too many sentences because of the war on drugs, any crime related to drugs would get more sentences than before.
