Hi! Do you think obesity is a very serious problem in the world now? Well, today's topic is "Taxes should be imposed on unhealthy foods to combat obesity."
I'm actually kind of divided on this topic. I mean, it would be good for people to be healthy and not have obesity. But would it be really fair to use precious taxes on obesity? The tax is probably going to increase by a lot. But I will present the first opinion of it would be good first. Obesity is a serious problem in the United States of America, researches show that 40% of people in America are obese. Although it would be bad to waste the tax, there are lots of teens and kids that may need help to get out of obesity. And obesity can cause lots of heart problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and some types of cancer. I mean, it can get some junk food companies to go out of business, but which would be better? Few big companies NOT getting out of business or tons of people NOT getting out of obesity? It could cause some problems to the economy if those companies go out of business, but I'm pretty sure those big companies are worldwide. So they will probably be fine without being in the American market.
But there are other opinions too. No! That is a waste of tax and waste or other things. It is a waste of tax, there are tons of other things to do with tax, especially since America is funding Ukraine for the war. And what about healthy people with no obesity? They would want to eat some unhealthy food like once a month. And the government is trying to block it by even using their tax? That is very unfair to healthy people. And if restaurants like McDonald's go out of business, it could affect literally the whole USA and stock owners of McDonald's. It could even affect the whole world. And how will the government know if people with obesity are eating unhealthy food? And it wouldn't be fair for USA government to force them to join the program either. And not lots of people will or will be able to join them.
