Should the president have served in the military?

Hi! Do you know any president that served in the military? Well, today's topic is "Should the president have served in the military?"

I'm afraid I have to disagree with the statement saying that they should serve in the military. I agree they should at least learn how to use firearms for emergency cases, but there aren't really necessary reasons for them to be serving military except for a higher understanding of veterans and people that served in the military. But that wouldn't be much different with the chief of the military except he or she would have much higher power. And it would also be a very bad way of dropping popularity. Let's say there was a famous young politician that is 34 years old, to be a president, he has to serve in the military for 1 year. When he came back, everybody forgot about this young politician. And even if he managed to be a candidate for president, it is very unlikely that he will be a president unless something heroic happened in the military. It won't even help the president make his or her decision either. Unless he or she participates as a general or sergeant, it won't help them with their leadership skill. Although it could help them with fast thinking, not lots of presidents were president during the war. So it wouldn't matter that much either. And being president is mostly about the economy, the happiness of citizens, and more! But it isn't usually about the military or war or battles.

But there are other opinions too. It could help them with fast thinking like if there was a war and the president didn't think fast and reacted to it very slowly and even if they reacted to it fast, they could have done it poorly. So the president's quick thinking could save the country or destroy it. And what would be a great way to learn quickly think than the military.

In conclusion, it would be very helpful to be in the military, but I think that it should be a choice, not required to become a president. There aren't any big reasons to do that. So it wouldn't be necessary.
