Hi! Do you think euthanasia is a merciful act? Today's entertaining topic is "Euthanasia is not morally acceptable.".
I think that it is acceptable. I know from my background knowledge that if a person is in a condition where doctors believe that euthanasia is needed, they are probably feeling intense pain and they won't' be able to live less than a few hours or a few days if they are lucky. I know that it is killing a person purposely but it is showing mercy because they are making them feel less pain. And I am pretty sure that they euthanasia with drugs so that they don't feel any pain. And if I could choose, I would euthanasia them so that they will at least die peacefully and not die in full of pain. Most family members wouldn't want them to die in pain. It would be better to let them go instead of watching them struggle for hours. And it would be very sad to kill their family member by knowing that they actually allowed it. It will be sad, but it could be better than just letting them die in pain.
Although I agree with the statements above, it wouldn't be so ethical to kill people because family members agreed to it. It would be considered murder. And it wouldn't be so fair for the person that is unconscious if doctors BELIVE that they are going to die, many families will probably choose euthanasia. But if they could have actually lived, it would be the doctors' fault. And would that be considered murder? And it would not be fair because even if they were actually ok if they lived a few hours more unconscious, it would be sad if they were killed because doctors recommended it and families were convinced or persuaded by the doctors.
To sum up all the pieces of information that have been provided in this selection, it could actually lessen the pain of the patient and help the patient die peacefully. But it could be against the patient's will and it would be unfair to them. And even if doctors are not sure that if the patient will die, they could convince their family and it could result in death.
