Did social media change us for the worse?

Most people around the world use social media. Is this affecting how people talk and act? If so, is it good or bad? Well, did social media change us for the worse?

I think social media have changed us for the worse. Social media makes people jealous and think less of themselves. Especially to Young people, they can get jealous of these wealthy and successful people and they feel less of themselves. Social media also provides 100% anonymity, people can do whatever they want on the platform. This would mean a person could cyberbully a person and still get no punishment. This cyberbullying also has more effect than typical bullying. Although usually bullies target small minorities, cyberbullies will target anyone within a few minutes. Social media also chooses how good of a person you are nowadays. This is absurd. People would just look at the followers and likes a person has and judge them based on it. These numbers are just meaningless and random in real life, but since more and more people are on these platforms, these numbers decide you as a human. Social media also don't provide a lot of privacy. A person could stalk you on social media and you may not know for years. People also get social media and reality confused. Out of habit, they talk like they would on social media. Mostly rude and not respecting others. Social media is also addicting. Even when people are meeting up in real life, most of them are using their cell phones. They are usually on social media, checking their notifications and new updates. This is preposterous, they met up in real life to talk with themselves, not use their phone. Social media are also addicting, some people procrastinate using cell phones instead of working or doing their school projects. If you walk down a street, you could see at least half of the people using Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok. The average American spends 2 hours and 14 minutes on social media. Meaning even if a person uses social media for 5 minutes a day, other people use them for 5 hours or more.
