Hi! Do you think most criminals should get the death penalty if they commit domestic abuse or mistreat his or her family? Well, today's topic is "Laws to protect the victims of domestic abuse should be enforced."
Well, I think there should be. The first reason why I think there should be laws to protect the victims of domestic abuse is that the offender will be really angry if he or she finds out that they called the police. So, to prevent any injuries or death caused by violence, it would be safe for the court to give a restraining order. But those can be broken easily, so it would be safer if there were any additional laws to prevent the attacker from meeting or contacting with the victim. Another reason is that they said to protect victims. It could mean physically as I said above, but it could also mean mentally. It would be very helpful for victims if the government supported or started programs helping the victims of domestic abuse who got their minds injured. And there also could be a law saying that an attacker should pay a certain amount of money for the crime they have done and the injuries that they caused to the victim's mind and body.
But there are opposing opinions too, which is that they shouldn't make laws to protect the victim of domestic abuse. The first reason is that if they get the wrong guy, which happens all the time, victims could abuse it and ask for tons of money or put him or her in jail for no particular reason except someone framed them. And if they can't prove that he or she is innocent, they have to get all the punishment, which would not be fair for them.
To conclude all the important or key pieces of information from this selection, I think that there should be some kind of tighter law for victims to protect themselves and get some money for the damage that the offender caused to them. And the government could maybe run a program that would help victims' mental health and their trauma and if lucky, they could possibly help them heal it.
